What is the title of The Good Place pilot episode?

The story behind the answer

The title of The Good Place pilot episode is “Everything Is Fine.” The episode introduces Eleanor Shellstrop, who wakes up in an afterlife neighborhood called the Good Place and is told she earned her place there through a virtuous life.

The title is deliberately ironic. Eleanor quickly realizes that the person Michael describes does not match her own memories: she was selfish, rude, and dishonest rather than morally exemplary. She asks Chidi Anagonye to help her become a better person before anyone discovers the apparent mistake.

“Everything Is Fine” is officially the series premiere and the first episode of season one. It was written by creator Michael Schur and directed by Drew Goddard. It aired on NBC on September 19, 2016, alongside the second episode, “Flying.”

A common mix-up is calling “Flying” the pilot because the two episodes originally aired back-to-back. “Team Cockroach” and “Chidi’s Choice” are later episode titles, not alternatives for the premiere.
