What is the title of the first sequel to the 2002 film Ice Age?

The story behind the answer

The first sequel to the 2002 film Ice Age is titled Ice Age: The Meltdown.

Released in 2006, the sequel continues the story of Manny, Sid, and Diego after the trio has become a traveling group. Its central conflict involves rising temperatures and the threat that the valley where the animals live will be flooded as an enormous ice dam begins to fail.

The film introduces Ellie, a mammoth who believes she is a possum because she was raised by the possum brothers Crash and Eddie. Ellie later becomes Manny’s mate and an important member of the recurring group.

The title is sometimes mixed up with the names of the third and fourth films. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs followed in 2009, while Ice Age: Continental Drift was released in 2012. The Meltdown was directed by Carlos Saldanha.
