What is the title of the first Paddington Bear television series?

The story behind the answer

The first Paddington Bear television series was titled Paddington.

This stop-motion animated series was produced by FilmFair and first broadcast in 1976. It adapted Michael Bond’s stories into short episodes featuring Paddington’s mishaps with the Brown family and neighbours in London.

The series is often identified by its opening narration and handmade stop-motion style. It is separate from the later 1997 animated series The Adventures of Paddington Bear and the 2019 computer-animated series The Adventures of Paddington.

The title can be confusing because later productions also use Paddington-related names. The 1976 programme is commonly referred to simply as Paddington, while the famous station setting and the character’s original book title belong to different parts of the franchise’s history.
