On what date was the 2014 film Paddington released in the United Kingdom?

The story behind the answer

The 2014 film Paddington was released in the United Kingdom on 28 November 2014.

The release brought Michael Bond’s bear to cinemas in a live-action and computer-generated feature directed by Paul King. The story follows Paddington from Peru to London, where he is taken in by the Brown family and searches for a natural-history-museum taxidermist connected to his past.

The British release came before the film’s theatrical opening in several other major markets. Its launch began the modern Paddington film series, which continued with Paddington 2 in 2017 and Paddington in Peru in 2024.

The date is distinct from the year in which Bond’s first Paddington book appeared. The character originated in print in the late 1950s, while the feature film arrived more than five decades later.
