What is the title of the American adaptation of the Dragon's Den format?

The story behind the answer

Shark Tank is the title of the American adaptation of the Dragon's Den format.

The US series premiered in 2009 on ABC and uses the same central premise: entrepreneurs present companies to wealthy investors, called sharks, and seek money in exchange for equity. The American title changes the animal metaphor while preserving the negotiation-based structure.

Although the programmes share a format lineage, they are separate national productions with different hosts, investors, broadcasters and business terminology. American contestants generally quote dollar amounts, while British contestants traditionally pitch in pounds.

The adaptation became a major US television franchise and introduced investors such as Mark Cuban, Barbara Corcoran and Kevin O’Leary to a broad audience. Its success demonstrates how the Money Tigers concept travelled from Japan through Britain to the United States.
