What is the title of the American adaptation of the business reality show Dragon's Den?

The story behind the answer

The American adaptation of the business reality show Dragon's Den is titled Shark Tank.

Shark Tank uses the same basic premise as Dragon's Den: entrepreneurs present businesses to a panel of wealthy investors and negotiate for capital in exchange for equity. The American programme began on ABC in 2009 and uses “sharks” rather than “dragons” for its investors.

The terminology changes, but the central structure remains recognisable. Founders discuss sales, valuation, ownership and growth plans, while investors decide whether to make an offer or leave the negotiation.

Shark Tank should not be confused with the original Japanese programme Money Tigers, which supplied the format later adapted for different countries. Dragon's Den is the British title, whereas Shark Tank is the best-known American title.
