What is the title of the 1997 sequel to Jurassic Park?

The story behind the answer

What is the title of the 1997 sequel to Jurassic Park? The Lost World: Jurassic Park is the title.

Released in 1997, the film is the second movie in the Jurassic Park franchise and the original trilogy. Steven Spielberg returned to direct, while David Koepp wrote the screenplay. It is loosely based on Michael Crichton’s 1995 novel The Lost World, which was written after the success of the first film and pressure from fans for a continuation.

The story shifts much of the action to Isla Sorna, a second dinosaur island used by InGen. John Hammond sends Ian Malcolm and a research team there to document the animals. A rival InGen group instead plans to capture dinosaurs and display them in a new attraction in San Diego, giving the sequel its distinctive island-to-city structure.

The title is sometimes shortened casually to The Lost World, but the film’s full official title includes Jurassic Park. It is not Jurassic Park III, which followed in 2001, nor Jurassic World, the 2015 continuation that began a later trilogy.
