What is the title of Spider-Man's first comic book appearance?

The story behind the answer

Spider-Man's first comic book appearance was in Amazing Fantasy #15.

Published by Marvel in August 1962, the anthology issue introduced teenager Peter Parker, who gains spider-like abilities after being bitten by a radioactive spider. The story was written by Stan Lee and drawn by Steve Ditko, whose visual design established Spider-Man's recognizable costume, poses, and web-swinging imagery.

The issue also contains Spider-Man's famous origin: Peter initially uses his powers for personal gain, then refuses to stop a fleeing burglar. After that burglar kills Uncle Ben, Peter realizes that power carries responsibility. This emotional structure became one of the character's defining features.

A common mix-up is Amazing Spider-Man #1, published in 1963. That was Spider-Man's first solo series issue, but not his debut. Amazing Fantasy #15 was the earlier anthology appearance that launched the character.
