Nolan's 2010 film about extracting secrets from dreams is Inception. The science-fiction thriller follows Dom Cobb, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, a professional extractor who enters people's dreams to steal information from their subconscious.
Cobb is offered a seemingly impossible alternative to extraction: inception, the implantation of an idea in a target's mind. To accomplish it, he assembles a specialized team and constructs several nested dream levels, each with its own time scale and physical rules. The film's layered structure deliberately blurs the boundary between dreams and reality.
Inception was written and directed by Christopher Nolan and features a large ensemble cast including Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, and Ken Watanabe. It is sometimes confused with Tenet, Nolan's 2020 film about inverted time, or The Matrix, which also explores reality but was directed by the Wachowskis.
