What is the title of C.S. Lewis’s 1943 book arguing for the value of traditional moral law?

The story behind the answer

C.S. Lewis’s 1943 book arguing for the value of traditional moral law is The Abolition of Man.

The Abolition of Man began as three lectures delivered at the University of Durham in 1943. Lewis criticized an approach to education that, in his view, treated value judgments as merely subjective emotions. He defended the existence of objective values and connected them with a shared moral tradition that he called the Tao.

The book is short, but its argument is philosophical rather than fictional or autobiographical. It is therefore distinct from The Problem of Pain, which addresses suffering, and Surprised by Joy, which recounts Lewis’s spiritual and intellectual development. The final chapter considers how attempts to master nature can ultimately become attempts by some humans to control others.
