What is the real name of the original Robin, Batman's first sidekick?

The original Robin, Batman’s first sidekick, is Dick Grayson.

Dick Grayson debuted as Robin in Detective Comics #38 in April 1940. He was introduced as a young counterpart who could give Batman someone to talk to and make the darker hero more appealing to younger readers. Together, Batman and Robin became known as the Dynamic Duo, one of comic books’ most recognizable partnerships.

In his origin story, Dick is an eight-year-old circus acrobat and a member of the Flying Graysons. After criminals sabotage the family’s trapeze act and kill his parents, Bruce Wayne takes him in. Batman eventually trains him to fight crime, turning Dick’s grief and athletic ability into the identity of Robin.

The name Robin later passed to Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, and Damian Wayne, which causes frequent quiz confusion. Dick Grayson remains the original Robin, however. In 1984, he moved beyond the role and adopted the identity Nightwing, later becoming an independent hero and occasional replacement Batman.
