What is the real name of Spider-Man?

The story behind the answer

The real name of Spider-Man is Peter Parker.

His full name is Peter Benjamin Parker, a brilliant teenager from Queens, New York. After being bitten by a radioactive spider, Parker develops enhanced strength, agility, reflexes and the ability to cling to solid surfaces. He later creates web-shooters and becomes the masked hero Spider-Man.

Peter’s origin is inseparable from the death of his Uncle Ben, whose lesson about responsibility becomes the moral foundation of the character. Raised by Aunt May and Uncle Ben after losing his parents, Peter balances superhero work with school, friendships, family responsibilities and financial problems.

Spider-Man first appeared in Marvel Comics’ Amazing Fantasy #15 in August 1962. Writer-editor Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko created him as a hero whose personal troubles were as important as his powers. Readers sometimes confuse Peter Parker with other Marvel or comic-book identities: Tony Stark is Iron Man, Bruce Wayne is Batman, and Clark Kent is Superman. Miles Morales is another Spider-Man, but Peter Parker remains the original and most widely recognized identity.
