Pinehurst No. 2 is the only golf course to have hosted the men’s, women’s, and senior U.S. Open championships. The celebrated course is part of Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
Designed by Donald Ross, Pinehurst No. 2 opened in 1907 and became famous for its crowned, fast greens and demanding short-game challenges. It hosted the U.S. Senior Open in 1994, won by Simon Hobday, before hosting the men’s U.S. Open in 1999 and 2005.
In 2014, the course made history by hosting the men’s U.S. Open and the U.S. Women’s Open in consecutive weeks. Payne Stewart won the 1999 men’s championship, Michael Campbell won in 2005, and Martin Kaymer won in 2014. Michelle Wie captured the women’s title that same year.
Pinehurst No. 2 hosted the men’s U.S. Open again in 2024, when Bryson DeChambeau won. The course is often confused with the entire Pinehurst Resort, which contains multiple layouts; the record belongs specifically to Course No. 2.
