What is the Olympic skiing event that combines ski jumping with cross-country skiing?
Answer
Nordic combined
Answer
Nordic combined
The Olympic skiing event that combines ski jumping with cross-country skiing is Nordic combined.
Competitors first take part in a ski-jumping competition, with their results converted into a starting-time advantage for the cross-country race. The first athlete to finish the cross-country portion wins the event. This format rewards both explosive jumping ability and sustained endurance.
Nordic combined developed in Norway during the late 19th century and was included at the first Winter Olympics in Chamonix in 1924. It remains the only Winter Olympic discipline contested exclusively by men; women’s Nordic combined is governed internationally but has not yet been added to the Olympic program.
Nordic combined is often confused with the alpine combined, which joins downhill or super-G with slalom. Biathlon is a different sport, combining cross-country skiing with rifle shooting, while skiathlon is a cross-country race using two skiing techniques.
