What is the official name of Milan’s national fashion industry chamber?
Answer
Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana
Answer
Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana
Milan’s national fashion industry chamber is the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana.
Often abbreviated as CNMI, the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana is the Italian organization representing and promoting Italian fashion. It is closely involved with the official Milan fashion calendar, including the scheduling and promotion of major runway events.
The organization was established in 1958, a period when Italy’s fashion industry was developing a stronger international identity. Milan subsequently became one of the four traditional global fashion capitals, alongside Paris, London and New York.
The Italian name is important because translations vary. “National Chamber of Italian Fashion” is a useful English rendering, but the official name used in references is Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana. It should not be confused with the British Fashion Council, which is connected with London, or the American Council of Fashion Designers, which is connected with New York.
