Burj Khalifa has an official architectural height of 828 metres, making it the world’s tallest building. It stands in Downtown Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and opened in January 2010.
The tower was designed by the Chicago-based firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, with Adrian Smith serving as chief architect. Its form was inspired in part by the Hymenocallis flower, and its structural system uses a buttressed central core to resist wind and support the great height.
Burj Khalifa is also known by its original project name, Burj Dubai. The building contains offices, residences, hotels and observation areas. Height records can differ when architectural height, roof height and antenna height are measured separately, but 828 metres is the standard official architectural figure.
