What is the nickname of the 12th hole at Augusta National?

The story behind the answer

The nickname of the 12th hole at Augusta National is Golden Bell.

Golden Bell is a 155-yard par-3 at the Masters venue in Augusta, Georgia. It is the middle hole of Amen Corner, the celebrated stretch comprising holes 11, 12 and 13. Its tee shot crosses Rae’s Creek to a shallow, tightly guarded green, making wind and club selection unusually important.

The hole was originally called Three Pines, after three pine trees near the tee. After those trees died, the name Golden Bell became associated with a flowering shrub behind the green. This explains why some older accounts or quiz references may use Three Pines instead.

Amen Corner is often mistakenly treated as the name of hole 12 itself. It is actually the name for the three-hole sequence, while Golden Bell identifies hole 12 specifically. The hole’s short distance can also be misleading: swirling wind and water make it one of Augusta’s most feared tests.
