Tolkien’s fictional language spoken by many Elves in Valinor is Quenya.
Quenya is one of the best-developed Elvish languages created by J.R.R. Tolkien. It is associated especially with the High Elves, including the Noldor and Vanyar, and with the Blessed Realm of Valinor. Tolkien modeled aspects of its sound and structure on languages he admired, particularly Finnish.
Quenya is not the same as Sindarin. Sindarin became the everyday Elvish language of many Elves in Middle-earth, while Quenya had a more formal, historical, and ceremonial role there. Tolkien’s linguistic notes show that he treated both languages as parts of a larger imagined history.
The language is also called High-elven or High-elvish in Tolkien’s writings. Readers sometimes recognize Quenya through names and phrases such as Eärendil and Namárië, though the surviving vocabulary and grammar are not a complete modern language system.
