The One Ring must be destroyed in Mount Doom in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth.
Mount Doom is a volcanic mountain in Mordor, the realm ruled by Sauron. Its Sindarin name is Orodruin, meaning “Mountain of Blazing Fire,” and it is also called the Fire-mountain.
The Ring was forged in Mount Doom by Sauron, making the volcano the only place where it could be unmade. Frodo and Sam reach the mountain during the final stage of their quest in The Lord of the Rings.
Mount Doom is not the same as Erebor, also known as the Lonely Mountain. Erebor is the destination of the dwarves’ quest in The Hobbit, while Mount Doom is central to the Ring’s destruction in the later trilogy.
