What is the name of the unusual Tangrowth in Pokémon Pokopia?

The unusual Tangrowth in Pokémon Pokopia is called Professor Tangrowth.

Professor Tangrowth is a distinctive version of Tangrowth with a partly white body and human tools. The character has been living alone in the abandoned town and helps explain the world to Ditto after Ditto awakens and transforms into a human-like form.

The title “Professor” reflects the character’s role in the story. Professor Tangrowth studies the environment and investigates the mystery of why humans and Pokémon disappeared. This makes the character more than a decorative town resident: Tangrowth acts as a guide and an important source of information as the restoration effort begins.

The name can be confused with the ordinary species name, Tangrowth. In Pokopia, Tangrowth is the species, while Professor Tangrowth is the specific story character. Other unusual Pokémon also receive special names, including Peakychu, Mosslax, Smearguru, Chef Dente, DJ Rotom, and Tinkmaster.
