What is the name of the train that carries students to Hogwarts in J.K. Rowling’s books?
Answer
Hogwarts Express
Answer
Hogwarts Express
The train that carries students to Hogwarts in J.K. Rowling’s books is the Hogwarts Express.
The Hogwarts Express transports students from London to Hogsmeade station at the start and end of the school year. Its departure point is Platform 9¾ at King’s Cross station, a magical platform hidden between Platforms 9 and 10. Students reach it by passing through the barrier between the ordinary platforms.
The train journey is a recurring setting in the series. Harry first meets Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger aboard the train, and later journeys introduce readers to important characters and conflicts. The Hogwarts Express is therefore both transport and a social space where school relationships develop.
The train is generally described as a scarlet steam locomotive. It should not be confused with the Knight Bus, which provides emergency road transport for witches and wizards, or with the magical boats that carry first-year students across the lake to Hogwarts.
