Túrin Turambar carries Gurthang in J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium.
Gurthang is the later name of the sword originally called Anglachel. The blade was forged by Eöl from meteoric iron and was one of the weapons brought from the dark history of Beleriand. After Túrin receives and reforges it, the sword is called Gurthang, a name commonly translated as “Iron of Death.”
The sword is central to Túrin’s tragic story in The Silmarillion and in the longer versions of the tale. Its unusual nature and the darkness surrounding its history reinforce the story’s themes of fate, grief, and the consequences of violence.
Anglachel is therefore a related but earlier name, not the answer for the sword after Túrin’s reforging. Ringil belongs to Fingolfin, while Aeglos is the spear of Gil-galad. These weapons are all part of Tolkien’s First Age mythology but belong to different characters.
