What is the name of the sport played by wizards in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter world?

The story behind the answer

The wizarding sport played in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter world is Quidditch.

Quidditch is played on flying broomsticks by two teams of seven players. Its equipment includes the Quaffle, two Bludgers, and the Golden Snitch, while players occupy roles such as Chaser, Beater, Keeper, and Seeker.

A team normally scores 10 points by putting the Quaffle through one of the opposing hoops. Catching the Golden Snitch usually earns 150 points and ends the match, though the score can produce a different result.

Rowling developed Quidditch as a fictional sport with its own terminology and rule structure. The sport later inspired real-world Muggle versions, which use modified rules and equipment.
