What is the name of the song cut from the original film?
Answer
The Morning Report
Answer
The Morning Report
The song cut from the original theatrical film was “The Morning Report.”
The number expands a brief early scene in which Zazu delivers news to Mufasa while young Simba interrupts his father’s morning routine. Elton John and Tim Rice wrote it for The Lion King stage musical after the song had been discarded during development of the original movie.
It was later recorded, animated, and inserted into the film for the 2002 IMAX release and the 2003 Platinum Edition DVD. In that version, the song replaces the shorter pouncing-lesson scene and features Zazu, Mufasa, and young Simba. The 1994 theatrical cut did not contain the musical sequence, which is why some viewers remember it and others do not.
The song is also easy to confuse with other Lion King numbers such as “Be Prepared” or “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King,” but it is specifically the later-added morning briefing song.
