Soto is the leader of the saber-toothed tiger pack in the 2002 animated film Ice Age.
Soto serves as the principal antagonist of the first Ice Age movie. He commands a pack that pursues Manny, Sid, and Diego after the human baby’s family is separated during the migration caused by the advancing ice age. Soto’s personal motivation is revenge against the humans, who killed members of his pack.
Diego initially works for Soto and is ordered to recover the baby. During the journey, however, Diego gradually changes allegiance as he develops trust and friendship with Manny and Sid. This conflict drives much of Diego’s character arc in the film.
Soto is sometimes confused with Diego because both are saber-toothed cats and both are central to the pack storyline. Diego becomes one of the franchise’s heroes, while Soto remains the pack leader and villain in the original film. The character was voiced by Goran Višnjić.
