Cruz Ramirez is the rookie trainer who helps Lightning McQueen in Pixar’s Cars 3.
Cruz works at the Rust-eze Racing Center, where she trains racers using modern data, simulators, and exercise programs. Lightning initially sees her as part of a new generation of competitors, especially after the high-tech Jackson Storm begins dominating the racing circuit.
Cristela Alonzo voices Cruz in the English-language version. During the story, Cruz’s own racing ability becomes increasingly important. Lightning eventually recognizes that she is not merely a trainer and gives her the opportunity to compete in his place.
Cruz’s role connects the film’s central themes of aging, mentorship, and changing technology. The character is distinct from Holley Shiftwell, the British spy introduced in Cars 2, and Sally Carrera, Lightning’s friend and the attorney of Radiator Springs.
