What is the name of the region based on Hawaii?

The story behind the answer

The Pokémon region based on Hawaii is called Alola. It is the setting of Pokémon Sun and Moon and their enhanced versions, Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.

Alola is a tropical island region made up primarily of four large islands: Melemele, Akala, Ula'ula, and Poni. The setting draws on Hawaiian geography, climate, culture, and island traditions. The games replace the traditional Gym challenge with the Island Challenge, in which players complete trials and face powerful Totem Pokémon.

The region’s Hawaiian influence appears in its names, landscapes, music, and customs. Professor Kukui is named after the kukui tree, Hawaii’s state tree, while the word “ohana,” meaning family, is used throughout the games and reflects a major theme of the story.

Alola also introduced regional forms of older Pokémon. For example, Alolan Vulpix is Ice type rather than Fire type, and Alolan Raichu becomes Electric/Psychic. These forms show how Pokémon can adapt to a different regional environment.
