What is the name of the realm of the fire giants?

The story behind the answer

Muspelheim is the Norse mythological realm associated with fire giants and elemental flame. It is also called Muspell, and descriptions portray it as a blazing, intensely hot region guarded by the fire giant Surtr, who carries a flaming sword.

In the creation story preserved in the Prose Edda, Muspelheim lies across the primordial void Ginnungagap from the icy realm Niflheim. Heat and sparks from Muspelheim meet the ice and venomous rivers flowing from Niflheim. Their interaction helps produce the first living being, the giant Ymir, while sparks become associated with the Sun, Moon, and stars.

Muspelheim also plays a major role in Ragnarök. The sons of Muspell advance against the gods, and Surtr’s fire helps consume the world. The fire realm is therefore more than a fantasy location: it represents one of the two primordial forces—heat and ice—that shape the Norse cosmos. Helheim is the realm of the dead, Jotunheim is associated with the jötnar, and Niflheim is the cold counterpart to Muspelheim.
