Answer
Churchill Downs
Answer
Churchill Downs
Churchill Downs is the racecourse where the Kentucky Derby is held.
Located in Louisville, Kentucky, Churchill Downs has hosted the Kentucky Derby since the race was first run in 1875. The venue takes its name from Samuel Churchill, whose family was prominent in Kentucky, although the track was initially known as the Louisville Jockey Club.
The Kentucky Derby is run over 1¼ miles, or 10 furlongs, on the first Saturday in May. It is the opening race of the American Triple Crown, followed by the Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes. Churchill Downs is also recognized by its distinctive twin spires, completed as part of the grandstand design in the late nineteenth century.
Keeneland and Churchill Downs are both major Kentucky tracks, but Keeneland does not host the Kentucky Derby. Belmont Park hosts the Belmont Stakes, while Santa Anita Park is a separate California venue with its own important stakes races.
