Answer
Chester Campbell
Answer
Chester Campbell
Chester Campbell is the police inspector who pursues the Shelbys in season 1 of Peaky Blinders. Portrayed by Sam Neill, Campbell is a Chief Inspector and Major in the Royal Irish Constabulary, sent from Belfast to impose order in Birmingham.
Winston Churchill assigns Campbell to recover a stolen shipment of weapons taken from the Birmingham Small Arms factory. The guns are valuable to several groups, including the Peaky Blinders and the IRA, so Campbell’s investigation quickly becomes entangled with Tommy Shelby’s criminal ambitions and political manoeuvring.
Campbell is not simply a conventional detective. He uses intimidation, surveillance and coercion, and he recruits Grace Burgess to work undercover at the Garrison pub. Her mission is to get close to Tommy and discover where the missing guns are hidden.
The character’s pursuit continues into series 2, where his conflict with the Shelbys reaches its end. Sergeant Moss is another police figure in the show, but he is not the principal inspector pursuing Tommy in the first series.
