What is the name of the PlayStation 2's online network adapter?

The PlayStation 2’s online network accessory was called the Network Adaptor. It was an optional peripheral that added network connectivity to compatible PlayStation 2 games and could also connect the console to an internal hard disk drive on certain models.

For the original “fat” PlayStation 2, the adaptor fitted into the console’s rear expansion bay. It provided an Ethernet connection, while some regional versions also included a 56k modem for dial-up internet access. The European version generally used Ethernet only, reflecting the region’s broadband-focused rollout.

The adaptor was not the same thing as a unified PlayStation online service. Unlike Xbox Live, PlayStation 2 online games commonly relied on servers operated by individual publishers. Players configured network settings using a Network Access Disc or software included with compatible games, then connected to each game’s online service.

Slimline PlayStation 2 models later included Ethernet networking inside the console, making a separate Network Adaptor unnecessary for ordinary online play.
