What is the name of the oldest continuously operating tequila distillery?

The story behind the answer

La Rojeña is the oldest continuously operating tequila distillery.

La Rojeña is José Cuervo’s historic distillery in Tequila, Jalisco. Its roots reach back to 1758, when José Antonio de Cuervo received a land grant that included permission to produce agave spirits. The distillery itself became known as La Rojeña in the nineteenth century.

The site remains an active production facility and is also a major visitor attraction. Tours explain agave cooking, extraction, fermentation, distillation, and bottling, linking modern tequila production with the town’s long industrial history.

A common mix-up is confusing La Rojeña with Casa Herradura, another famous historic distillery. Casa Herradura is highly significant, but La Rojeña is the site generally identified as the oldest continuously operating tequila distillery.
