Hades is the Nintendo Switch game whose protagonist is named Zagreus.
Hades is a roguelike action game developed and published by Supergiant Games. It follows Zagreus, the son of Hades, as he repeatedly attempts to escape the Underworld and reach the surface. Each escape attempt combines fast combat with procedurally varied rooms, rewards, and enemy encounters.
The game entered early access in 2018 and received its full release on September 17, 2020, including on Nintendo Switch. Its story continues between attempts, so failure advances character relationships, dialogue, and the wider narrative rather than simply resetting progress.
Supergiant’s earlier games include Bastion, Transistor, and Pyre. Those titles share the studio’s emphasis on distinctive art, music, and writing, but Zagreus and the Underworld belong specifically to Hades.
