What is the name of the Nintendo Switch game featuring the detective Pikachu character?

Detective Pikachu Returns is the Nintendo Switch game featuring the detective Pikachu character.

Nintendo released Detective Pikachu Returns on October 6, 2023. Players control Tim Goodman, who works with a talking, coffee-loving Pikachu to investigate mysteries in Ryme City. Unlike most Pokémon adventures, the game focuses on clue gathering, interviews, and solving cases rather than traditional Pokémon battles.

The title follows Detective Pikachu, a Nintendo 3DS game released in Japan in 2016 and elsewhere in 2018. The earlier game established Tim and Detective Pikachu’s partnership, while the Switch sequel continues their story in a new series of investigations.

Detective Pikachu Returns should not be confused with the live-action film Pokémon Detective Pikachu. The film premiered in 2019, whereas the Switch title is an interactive sequel to the original game.
