What is the name of the NHL’s team from Detroit? Detroit’s NHL team is the Detroit Red Wings.

The franchise entered the NHL in 1926 and originally played as the Detroit Cougars. It later became the Detroit Falcons before adopting the Red Wings name in 1932. The name was inspired partly by the Montreal Winged Wheelers, a club associated with team owner James Norris.

The Red Wings are one of the NHL’s most successful and recognizable franchises. They have won 11 Stanley Cup championships, including the 2008 title. Their traditional home, Joe Louis Arena, hosted the team from 1979 until 2017; the club then moved to Little Caesars Arena.

Detroit is often called “Hockeytown,” a nickname strongly associated with the Red Wings and their long-standing fan culture. The other choices are NHL teams too, but they represent Pittsburgh, Toronto and Chicago rather than Detroit.
