What is the name of the NHL's annual all-star game?
Answer
NHL All-Star Game
Answer
NHL All-Star Game
The NHL’s annual all-star game is called the NHL All-Star Game.
It is a midseason exhibition featuring many of the league’s best players, selected through a combination of fan voting, league choices and player selection. Unlike Stanley Cup Playoff games, the All-Star Game is not part of the regular-season standings and does not determine the champion.
The first official NHL All-Star Game was played in 1947 in Toronto. The format changed repeatedly over the decades: defending champions once faced a selection of league stars, divisions and conferences later opposed one another, and international concepts were also introduced. Since 2016, the event has generally used a 3-on-3 tournament involving teams based on the league’s divisions, with later editions adding variations such as player drafts.
The Heritage Classic is an outdoor regular-season game, the World Cup of Hockey is an international tournament, and the Stanley Cup is the championship trophy. None is the league’s annual all-star exhibition.
