What is the name of the modern-day corporation opposing the Assassins in Assassin's Creed?

Abstergo Industries is the modern-day corporation opposing the Assassins in Assassin's Creed.

Abstergo is presented as a multinational company secretly controlled by the modern Templar Order. Its public business activities provide cover for efforts to locate Pieces of Eden and reshape society according to Templar ideals.

The company develops and operates the Animus, a machine that allows users to access genetic memories inherited from their ancestors. In the first game, Desmond Miles is held by Abstergo and forced to relive Altaïr's memories. Later stories show that Abstergo uses entertainment products and other technologies to collect genetic-memory data from a much wider audience.

Abstergo is not the name of the Animus itself. The Animus is the memory-viewing device, while Abstergo is the organization that controls it in the early modern-day storyline. The Assassin Brotherhood's modern opposition is therefore corporate, political, and technological at the same time.
