Manny is the mammoth herd leader in Ice Age: The Meltdown. During the film, he becomes the leader of a mixed group of animals fleeing a valley threatened by catastrophic flooding.
Manny is a woolly mammoth who initially believes he may be the last of his kind. His relationship with Ellie challenges that belief, because Ellie is also a mammoth even though she was raised among opossums and identifies with them.
The sequel’s journey gives Manny responsibility for protecting the group, including Sid and Diego. His cautious leadership contrasts with Sid’s impulsiveness and Diego’s struggle with fear of water.
