The main police force in Grand Theft Auto V is the Los Santos Police Department, usually abbreviated as LSPD.

The LSPD polices Los Santos, the game’s fictional Southern California city based on Los Angeles. It is the department players most often encounter during pursuits, wanted-level escapes and missions taking place in the urban area. Its slogan, “Obey & Survive,” reflects the game’s satirical take on aggressive, heavily armed city policing.

Grand Theft Auto V also includes other law-enforcement organisations, which can cause confusion. The Los Santos County Sheriff’s Department operates across rural areas, especially Blaine County, while the FIB and IAA are fictional federal intelligence agencies. NOOSE provides a heavily armed tactical response, but it is not the city’s ordinary police department.

The LSPD is itself a parody of the real Los Angeles Police Department. Mission Row Police Station serves as its best-known headquarters in the game, and LSPD officers use patrol cars, motorcycles, helicopters and tactical units to respond to crimes.
