Which Grand Theft Auto game follows ex-soldier Victor "Vic" Vance in 1984 Vice City?

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories is the game that follows ex-soldier Victor “Vic” Vance in 1984 Vice City.

Developed by Rockstar Leeds and Rockstar North, Vice City Stories was first released for the PlayStation Portable in October 2006, with a PlayStation 2 port following in 2007. It is a prequel to Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, whose story takes place in 1986. The earlier date lets the game show Vice City before some familiar businesses, districts, and criminal empires have fully formed.

Vic begins as a corporal stationed at Fort Baxter, but a corrupt superior, Sergeant Jerry Martinez, draws him into the drug trade and eventually frames him. After being dishonorably discharged, Vic works with his brother Lance and gradually builds the Vance Crime Family. This storyline distinguishes Vice City Stories from the original Vice City, which follows Tommy Vercetti, and from Liberty City Stories, which centers on Toni Cipriani. The game also introduced an empire-building system: players seize properties from rival gangs and convert them into businesses. Its 99 hidden balloons are a nod to Nena's 1984 song “99 Luftballons.”
