What is the name of the live-action reference model for Cinderella?

The story behind the answer

The live-action reference model for Cinderella was Helene Stanley.

For Disney’s 1950 animated film, Stanley performed scenes on a soundstage so animators could study Cinderella’s movements, poses, and timing. The footage was reference material rather than a literal tracing of every frame, helping the artists plan believable human action.

Stanley’s work went beyond Cinderella. She also served as a live-action reference for Anastasia in the same film, Princess Aurora in Sleeping Beauty, and Anita Radcliffe in One Hundred and One Dalmatians. This can cause confusion because Ilene Woods supplied Cinderella’s speaking and singing voice, while Stanley influenced the character’s physical performance and appearance.

Disney had used live-action reference in earlier features, including Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Pinocchio. Cinderella’s production relied on the method partly to control costs and clarify difficult scenes, but the finished character remained hand-animated rather than simply copied from filmed footage.
