Cinderella is the 12th film in the chronological order of Disney animated features. It was released in 1950, after The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad and before Alice in Wonderland.
The sequence begins with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937, followed by Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, and Bambi. Wartime package films then occupy several places: Saludos Amigos, The Three Caballeros, Make Mine Music, Fun and Fancy Free, and Melody Time.
Cinderella’s position can cause confusion because Disney’s wartime releases were anthology packages rather than single continuous stories. They are nevertheless counted as animated feature films in the studio’s release chronology, placing Cinderella twelfth rather than tenth or eleventh.
Its arrival was especially important to Disney’s history. The film was the studio’s first successful animated feature after an eight-year gap following Bambi and became a commercial recovery that helped finance later classics such as Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan.
