How many Academy Awards did Cinderella win?

The story behind the answer

Cinderella won 0 Academy Awards. The 1950 Disney film received three Oscar nominations at the 23rd Academy Awards, but it did not win in any of them.

Its nominations were for Best Scoring of a Musical Picture, Best Sound Recording, and Best Original Song for “Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo.” The song lost to “Mona Lisa” from Captain Carey, U.S.A., while the other categories also went to competing films.

This is often confused because Cinderella earned major recognition elsewhere. It won prizes at the 1951 Berlin International Film Festival and was later selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry. Those honors do not change its Oscar record.

The film’s three nominations still marked a strong return for Walt Disney’s feature-animation studio. Released on February 15, 1950, Cinderella became a major box-office success and helped restore the company’s finances after several difficult wartime years.
