What is the name of the leader of the Ents?

The leader of the Ents is Treebeard. He is the oldest and most prominent of the Ents, the tree-like shepherds of Middle-earth who live mainly in Fangorn Forest.

Treebeard’s Sindarin name is Fangorn, which is also the name of the ancient forest he inhabits. He meets Merry and Pippin during their escape from the Orcs and eventually calls an Entmoot, a gathering where the Ents decide to march against Saruman. Their attack destroys Isengard and ends Saruman’s industrial destruction of Fangorn’s trees.

A common mix-up is Fangorn: it is Treebeard’s name and the forest’s name, not the name of the Ents’ leader as a separate character. Quickbeam is another Ent, known for his unusually hasty temperament, while Skinbark is also an Ent mentioned in Tolkien’s history.

Treebeard’s story is also tied to the lost Entwives. By the end of the Third Age, the Ents have not found them, and Treebeard fears that his people will slowly become more tree-like and dwindle.
