The leader of the air pirates in Castle in the Sky is Dola.
Dola commands a family-like pirate crew that attacks the airship carrying Sheeta, hoping to steal the crystal necklace that can lead to the legendary floating city of Laputa. Although she initially appears to be an outlaw antagonist, Dola becomes an important ally to Sheeta and Pazu after the military and Muska pursue them.
Dola is portrayed as bold, practical, and fiercely protective of her sons and crew. She recruits Pazu temporarily after he helps plan an attempt to rescue Sheeta from the army’s fortress. During the journey, Dola’s airship comes under attack from the military airship Goliath, but her crew continues helping the young protagonists reach Laputa.
Sheeta is the orphaned heir to Laputa’s royal line, while Pazu is the young mechanic who dreams of proving his father’s discovery. Muska is the film’s main human antagonist and another descendant of Laputa’s royal family. Dola is distinct from all three: she is the older matriarch who leads the air pirates and later assists in the fight against Muska.
