King Harold and Queen Lillian govern Far Far Away, a large fairy-tale city that Shrek and Fiona visit after their honeymoon. The kingdom’s name parodies the phrase “far, far away,” a familiar opening from traditional fairy tales.

Shrek is anxious about meeting Fiona’s parents because he expects them to reject him as an ogre. Their concerns are complicated by Harold’s history: he was once transformed into a frog and accepted help from the Fairy Godmother, whose son Prince Charming expected to marry Fiona.
