Duloc is the kingdom ruled by Lord Farquaad in the first Shrek film.
Duloc is presented as a highly controlled, polished kingdom whose ruler, Lord Farquaad, wants to become king. Farquaad lives in an enormous castle and uses a magic mirror to choose a princess he can marry.
The kingdom’s tidy appearance contrasts with Shrek’s muddy swamp and with the chaotic fairy-tale characters Farquaad expels from his territory. A famous Duloc sequence uses singing mechanical figures and a parody of a theme-park welcome performance.
Farquaad sends Shrek to rescue Princess Fiona from her castle because he wants to marry her and gain the title of king. After Shrek and Fiona return, their relationship exposes Farquaad’s self-interest and leads to his downfall during the wedding ceremony.
