What is the name of the John Lennon memorial in New York's Central Park?

The John Lennon memorial in New York’s Central Park is called Strawberry Fields.

Strawberry Fields is a 2.5-acre landscaped section near Central Park West and West 72nd Street, directly across from The Dakota, where Lennon lived and was murdered in 1980. Rather than a conventional statue, Yoko Ono supported the idea of a living memorial: a landscaped quiet zone where visitors could reflect and leave flowers, candles and other tributes.

The memorial’s best-known feature is the circular “Imagine” mosaic, named for Lennon’s signature peace anthem. The site itself takes its name from the Beatles song “Strawberry Fields Forever,” which Lennon wrote and which in turn referred to Strawberry Field, a children’s home near his childhood neighborhood in Liverpool.

New York City officially named the area Strawberry Fields in April 1981. The redesigned memorial was dedicated on October 9, 1985—what would have been Lennon’s 45th birthday. Imagine Peace Tower, in Iceland, is another Lennon memorial, but it is not the Central Park site.
