What is the name of the island where Jurassic Park is located?
Answer
Isla Nublar
Answer
Isla Nublar
Jurassic Park is located on Isla Nublar, a fictional island near Costa Rica. In the story, billionaire industrialist John Hammond’s company builds the dinosaur theme park there after recovering prehistoric DNA from fossilized mosquitoes.
Isla Nublar is the main setting of Michael Crichton’s 1990 novel and Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film adaptation. Its remote tropical location helps Hammond’s team keep the park isolated, but that isolation also makes the eventual dinosaur escape especially dangerous for the visitors and staff.
The name is Spanish for “cloudy island,” fitting the island’s frequent mist and stormy conditions. The film’s fictional island was represented on screen by locations in Hawaii, including Kauai, rather than by a real island named Isla Nublar.
A frequent mix-up is Isla Sorna. That island, also called Site B, is where InGen bred and raised dinosaurs before transporting them to public parks. Isla Matanceros and Isla Muerta are other islands in the broader Jurassic World setting, but the original park is on Isla Nublar.
