Answer
Skull Island
Answer
Skull Island
The island in Peter Jackson’s 2005 King Kong is called Skull Island.
In the film, filmmaker Carl Denham secretly directs the SS Venture toward the mysterious island while pretending the voyage is bound for Singapore. After the ship is caught in fog and storms, the crew reaches Skull Island, a remote location west of Sumatra marked by violent weather and magnetic anomalies.
Skull Island is home to enormous prehistoric creatures, hostile inhabitants, and Kong, the giant ape who dominates the island’s ecosystem. Its steep cliffs, jungle, massive defensive wall, and ruined settlements give the location a deliberately lost-world atmosphere. The island’s isolation allows species and cultures that disappeared elsewhere to survive into the film’s 1933 setting.
Jackson’s version also expands the island’s backstory through the companion book The World of Kong: A Natural History of Skull Island. That fictional history describes an unstable island slowly sinking into the sea. Fifteen years after the events of the film, the island is said to disappear beneath the ocean, helping explain why it remains an unreachable legend.
